At the closing ceremony of IOI 2016, the IOI flag was passed to the representatives of Islamic Republic of Iran, as the host of IOI 2017.

Dr. Hossein Shojaei, the Iranian Deputy Minister of Education, in his speech before receiving the flag appreciated the IOI 2016 organizers for running a successful IOI, and invited the IOI delegates to attend the next IOI during July 28 to August 4, 2017 in Tehran.

Dr. Mohamad-Ali Abam, the Chair of IOI 2017, received the flag from Dr. Ilshat Rafkatovich Gafurov, the Rector of Kazan Federal University (KFU).
